E/ENERGIZED BARRIERS
E/ENERGIZED BARRIER™ is a one piece molded design disc - shaped barrier that prevent squirrels, birds and other wildlife from causing phase to ground contact. E/Energized Barrier™ is a track resistant flame retardant material with enhanced UV resistance. Designed with lineman in mind, it installs easily and safely with a common shot gun stick, without service interruption.

All E
/Energized Barriers™ have concentric ring design to facilitate natural rain washing action of insulator surfaces and minimize wind loading. In combination with its dark grey color, the design also minimizes public visibility of the device.  E/Energized Barriers™ flexible fingers allow the device to slide smoothly between adjacent skirts of an insulator and then hold the device securely in place to form a long term insulated barrier on substation equipment, such as switch and power fuse insulators, terminators, arrestor and bus support insulators. The E/Energized Barriers™’s innermost rings are easily clipped with a set of standard lineman pliers to allow the barrier to fit virtually all insulator core diameters.

1. Cut off the innermost ring(s) and the end tips of the innermost flexible fingers, as needed, to fit insulators with

larger core diameters. (Cut the inner end of the tabs so that they are left attached to the E/Energized Barrier™. Create

circular center opening in the E/Energized Barrier™, which has a diameter that is approximately the same as that of the insulator core diameter. Standard lineman's pliers can be used to cut the tabs to remove the rings as needed).

2.
To install with a standard shotgun stick, place the shotgun stick attachment point provided on the E/Energized Barrier™ into the end of the barrel opening of the shotgun stick. Attach the E/Energized Barrier™ securely to the barrel with the shotgun stick gripping finger.

3.
Install on insulator by pushing the E/Energized Barrier™ onto the insulator by means of the flexible finger entry port of the E/Energized Barrier™. Install with a smooth, steady push. (On post type insulators, place the E/Energized Barrier™ midway down from the top or one skirt below midway to achieve a minimum 4" clearance between adjacent E/Energized Barrier™. On cap-and-pin insulators, place the E/Energized Barrier™ on the insulator below the top petticoat). NOTE: In order to maintain the proper clearance between adjacent E/Energized Barrier™ it may be necessary to remove some of the outer rings on one or both of the E/Energized Barrier™. The clearance is intended to provide potential fault protection.

4.
The E/Energized Barrier™ can be easily installed without de-energizing equipment.

5.
If removal of the E/Energized Barrier™ is necessary, pull the device off with a slow, steady pull.
