Midsun HVIC™ room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone rubber coating on glass, porcelain and polymer insulators performs by virtue of its water repellency and its proprietary anti-tracking,flame retardant, adhesion promoter agents. Becausethe coating is highly hydrophobic contaminant’s cannot film out over the surface.
How long will the coating last?
Longevity depends on a variety of factors. Conditions such as corona and dry-band arcing will age the coating more quickly. Under the very worst conditions, the coating should last for ten(10) years.
How much Midsun HVIC is required?
In general, one pound of HVIC covers over 1100sq. inches at 15mil thickness, excluding losses from material left in the spray equipment and overspray. There are approximately 9-10 pounds in a gallon.
What is the required thickness for Midsun HVIC?
Midsun Group feels that, a 15 mil thickness is optimal, based on our long term success.
What effect will less than 15 mil thickness have?
Midsun HVIC’s life is usually determined by erosion, so you will reduce the life if you put on a thinner coat.
Can Midsun HVIC be applied energized?
Midsun HVIC is not formulated for energized application. Midsun Group does however offer Midsun Energized HVIC, which is specially formulated for energized applications.
Do runs or drips cause problems?
No, but this should be avoided since it is a waste of material.
How should you clean Midsun HVIC coated insulators?
Cleaning should not be required, but if desired, a low pressure water wash will work.
What if I need to remove the coating?
The coating is permanent and should never require removal, simply a quick cleaning with solvent and re-application of coating. If removal is desired the coating can be stripped with a corn cob blast.
